Volley Ball
Volley ball is at the bar pleading for more supporters and cheerers. This year’s playing admits of no comparison with last year’s, as any sideliner will tell you, and from he present outlook, peppy interesting, class games are fast approaching.
The seniors have excellent material for a team this year.
Leatherman knows how to make points for her team.
Wething may be small of stature butt she swings a wicked arm. Benedict Doyle and Keck help roll up the score for he Evens. The half twin, Wilma Simmons, is a steady player and the Seniors wish there were two of her! True to her name, Clara makes the score run High. Others coming ou for practice: MIller, W. Lee and L. Bishop.
The Juniors, with their baffling tricks whip fear into the Seniors. The manner in which Sybil Flynn aims at and hits that intermediate territory is phenomenal. McConnell is good at dropping he ball close to the net where her opponent cannot return it, and the way Everett hits the white line at the sides of the court is aggravating to the opposing team. Couch is versatile at serving and returning., as is also Denning. The teamwork of the Juniors is above par. Swindell, Williams, Nicholason and Richards all help to support their team.
Among the Sophomores, Simpie Yarboroug is unfailing in her return of balls and does her part in the corner, too. Pritchard is always on hand to deliver the goods and Hawkings helps add up the points. Fox wields a hefty arm whose pattern A. Moore and Barnett follow. Others worthy of menion include Cochran, Bishop, Feinberg and R. De Pass. Quality as well as quantiy distinguish the Freshmen and enthusiam is running high. Virgnia Walker is a trusty player. Elizabeth Gates can be seen practicing almost any day and a good game she plays, too. Olivia Ann Swift, Margaret Scarborough, Margaret Baker and Dorothy Cleve bid promise of being future stars. Many others deserve praise for their loyal support of the Freshman team.
The “Upstart” Team” (Junior) regret the departue of one of heir mostt promising members , Rachel Smitth; and both Odds and Evens sigh when they behold Spiller and Cooper, former volley ball stars, reduced ot mere onlookers because of injuries received during practice.
We appreciattet ttheir enduring thte sun’s hot rays, whose heat is alleviated somewhat by an umbrella to cheer their team on to victory. And to Miss Katie we owe thanks for her admirable coaching.

Sportsmanship
Play the game,
But play it fairly
But meet men squarely
Fight to win
Tackle hard
And hit the line,
Do your best,
But don’t you whine
Play to win
And every quarter
Keep in mind
There’s more than winning.
Victory’s Sweet;
But for good or ill
An honest name
Is sweeter still.
Reach your goal
By hard endeavor,
But by trick and cunning never,
Win or lose
Though bruise and lame,
Let right find you unashamed;
Play the game.

My Name
I wore this during the game

October 29 witnessed a lively strtuggle on the volley ball courtt, when the girls of one training table encountered a rival group of tarainers. Very appropriate names for the two teams were chosen, namely: “Leaping Lenas” and “Spark Plugs.” The result of the games was thatt the Spark Plugs were victorious with a score of 5 tt 4. The Spark Plugs were Jewel Cooper, Viola Everett, Esther Willies, Margaret Baker, Bell Richey and Sybil Ester Flynn. Thhe Leaping Lenas were Sarah Benedict, Ellen McConnell, Ruth Du Pass, Alma Goodson, Mary Fienburg and Lousie Robles
The Winning Spark Plugs played tthe “weaker team” members of another training table and were quickly defeate. The members of the Weaker Team were Marian Couch, “Simpie” Yarborough, Evelyn Keck, Dorothy Miller, Helen Spiller and Joyce Pritchard
