The Gary Ford Revue Season 1928
Elizabeth Byrd Taylor attended the Gary Ford Revue on February 11, 1928. The Gary Ford Revue was a celebration of the talents of the Florida State College of Women students. The production took place each season, although there are no other records digitalized besides the one that Elizabeth Byrd kept of the Revue Program.
Throughtout the program, you can see that many different companies and organizations sponsored the Gary Ford Revue. Such as, car salesman Chester Smith, "The New Oldsmobile" advertises a fine car for a low price. It also was common in programs for the arts to have politcal campaign endorsements, so as to reach a broader audience to vote. Sidney J. Catts for governor and JNO. W. Dubose for county judge had this idea, and while it didn't quite work in Sidney's favor, JNO had better luck. Beckett Lunch also was smart enough to sneak in a quick ad, claiming they could fill any appetite.
From other evidence found throughout Taylor's Scrapbook, it seemed that she was a fan of Gary Ford. Gary Ford was an interpretive dancer, or she used to be it seems. The show is put on and produced by Miss Ford, meaning she must have been a mentor of some sort to these young women. This production is a ode to her work.
Like all classic productions or plays, there are many moving parts to put them together. Beginning with a prologue and finishing with a denoument, or finale, programs like these are filled with scenes, songs, dance, actors and storylines. It can be denotated that the Gary Ford Revue never repeated a production, and each one was held to the highest standard.
