Christmas Celebrations and Giving/Donations

Christmas during this time consisted of gifts, dinners, and celebrations. Christmas time was a very special time that was about keeping faith and helping others. In 1917 A community Christmas tree was donated to the Florida state and also had celebrations of songs and prayer. There was also a Christmas dinner in 1917 that took place in the school's dining room where the dining room would have decorations and regulation trimmings. During the Christmas dinner, they would also exchange presents that and would be required for the presents to only cost up to five cents.

Annual Christmas Performances

It seems as though there were annual events called Christmas vespers and have played and Christmas Cantatas. Christmas Vespers is described as a tradition about giving the community an annual gift of outstanding holiday classics and rearrangements of old favorites, as well as readings, candlelight, and joy. This type of play was a combination of stories for the Christmas season. Christmas Vespers was performed by the college glee club. For the 1916 Christmas Vespers event that was delayed the College Glee club sang 3 Christmas choruses and had participation from a violinist. In 1919 they had 2 plays one was the called Bethlehem which took place on December the 14th and two days later was a Christmas mystery play called "Eagle Heart." The Christmas performances were also displayed on the Florida Flambeau every year. Christmas performances and celebrations were really important during these times because of the first world war and the Spanish flu because the people needed to come together and celebrate what they have and the important things in life, which was community and unity.
