Dr. Edward Conradi 4th President of the FSCW. 

This exhibit includes the 4th President of the Floirda State College of Women. Dr. Edward Conradi was the president of the FSCW from 1909 to 1942. 

 Edward Conradi was born on feburary 20th, 1869. He was born in New Bremen, Ohio. Conradi attended Indiana University Bloomington where he received a Bachelor's and Master's degree. After going to Indiana University Bloomington he completed a Ph.D in psychology from Clark University in 1904. In 1905 Condradi moved to Florida where he began his role as principle of the Normal and Industrial School of St. Petersberg Florida. Conradi showed his leadership role and had a great relationship with students and facualty. He was appointed dean of the Florida State College of Women in 1909 By the president at the time, Albert A. Murphree. When Murphree took the position as the president of the University of Floirda, Edward Conradi was named to replace him at the FSCW. He became the 4th president of the college.  

Dr. Conradi's accomplishments were very notable during his time at the Floirda State College of Women. By 1915 he had succeeded in developing a program that was recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. In 1924 the institution was approved by the Association of American Universities. Each year of his Administration Dr. Conradi added staff, personnel, and equipment to the growing university. While serving as President Dr. Conradi was also the first to teach the experimental psychology course at the FSCW. Conradi was the Floirda State college of Women's longest serving president. His contributions resulted in his name being given to the Florida State Universities Biology building. His name was also given to the college or arts and sciences first endowed chair in the psychology department in 1991. Edward Conradi died on December 1, 1944 in Tallahassee Florida. He was 75 years of age. 

Dr. Conradis wife, Augusta Grothaus Conradi (1873 – 1928) Studied fine arts at a convent school and taught public school in ohio. She and Edward got married in 1898. As first lady, Ms Conradi took great interest in the students of the Florida State College for Women. She was a charter member of the College Dames Club, established in 1926 to allow the wives of faculty and administrators to get to know one another and welcome newcomers to campus. The club established a fund for college seniors who needed financial assistance. Upon her death, the fund was named the Conradi Fund. The organization continues today as the Faculty and Friends Club and gives money to the Southern Scholarship Foundation rather than to individual students. Mrs. Conradi took an active role in the social affairs of Tallahassee and served as president of the Women’s Club. The theatre in the Williams Building was given her name because of her love and interest in the arts. The Conradi family included two daughters, Elizabeth and Louise.
