Graduation (Group H)

Graduation starts with a recital from some of the students of the University of music. This can range from playing a piano, organ, or even students dancing. Please note that there are usually around 10 performances before the graduation starts.

Attendees are given a pamphlet containing what performances will happen before and after the graduation ceremony. After the students performed and the speakers spoke, they then get to watch all 300+ students walk across the stage. Some of the students may not have been able to be seen by their brothers or fathers since world war 1 had just ended a couple of years prior.

This paper cut out represents what the graduation caps used to look like. By the looks of it, the design has relatively stayed the same as what they look like now, even though this was made over a century ago. The only difference that could be spotted is the tassels being a different color. It looks like the red and light brown (assumed to be gold at the time) string is used to hold the paper cut out to the page, and is not actually part of the cap

Another cut out of a graduation cap. This one has the name "Elizabeth Byrd" on it. Elizabeth was a french teacher who taught the graduating class. She is a loved teacher by the students and because of that, they dedicated an entire page to her as thanks.

The girl in the picture is Jewell Genevieve. She is wearing a graduation outfit, holding her diploma and a bouquet of flowers. This picture of here was taken in 1928 which makes her an even. Evens are the students who graduate on an even number, while odds are students who graduate on an odd number.

The last graduation of Florida State College for Women was in 1950 which was right after WWII. This was when the college decided to make the school coed again. They also built the Doak Campbell Stadium this year which was a turning point for Florida State, making it a college, and not only exclusive to women.
